Karate Inc. of The Woodlands was started in 1990 after Rick Prieto, an 8th Degree Black Belt and 40-year student
of Chuck Norris, came to Houston, TX to run the Kick Drugs Out of America Program™ (now called
KickStart™) for Chuck Norris with the help of President George Bush. KickStart™ is a
character-development program for inner-city, school-aged children, designed to help build self-esteem, set goals, teach
self-discipline and respect, and steer them away from gang-related activities.
After moving to The Woodlands, TX, Mr. Prieto saw a need for a character-development and martial arts program
in this growing community, and realized Chuck Norris' United Fighting Arts Federation (UFAF) Chun Kuk
Do program would be a perfect match. Originally called Kid's Karate, the
name was changed to Karate Inc. of The Woodlands so
that residents would know that the program was available for
all ages. As the community grew, the program grew... and
after fulfilling his commitment to launch KickStart™, he decided to make The Woodlands his permanent home, and
expand Karate Inc. of the Woodlands. We have been successfully operating for over 20 years, and we're
still growing! We've also added a Black Belt Club, which includes specialty classes in weapons
training, Brazilian Jui Jitsu, Tournament Sparring, and Black Belt
Preparation!
For the younger classes, we've incorporated Powerful Words©, a character-development program
developed by child-development specialist and author Dr. Robyn Silverman. The program focuses on character-ducation
and body/self-esteem development during childhood, adolescent, and young adulthood. We also added the Be Safe!
™ Education Program developed by the AmberWatch Foundation and World Black Belt
, a three prong approach to educate children and their parents on "how to stay safe, and out of the hands
of abductors and molesters."
